ANSWER:

The football is generally travelling with a huge force which can create and exert a large force on the body of goalkeeper. When the force is applied with a little duration of time on a body it is known as impulse.

These impulses transfer a huge amount of momentum from one body to another body which can cause damage. These fears the goalkeeper, respond towards incoming football and he hurt his hand.

EXPLANATION:

Impulse can hurt a body because it transfer huge amount of energy to another body and the body cannot tolerate this huge energy. Therefore if the goalkeeper will try to stop the ball he will get hurt.

Also so when the ball is shot from the nearby distance, it will create a huge damage to the goalkeepers hand while in the course of stopping the ball.
