while playing in a park a child was stung by a wasp some elders suggested applying paste of baking soda and other lemon juice as remedy which remedy do you think is appropriate and why

Because the venom contained in wasp's sting is acidic while toothpaste or baking soda is basic. Hence applying that will neutralise the wound and you'll feel better. But you cannot apply lemon juice as it has a citric acid and will add up to the irritation.

The nature of baking soda is basic whereas lemon juice is acidic in nature. So applying the paste of baking soda is good remedy as compared to the paste of lemon juice because wasp sting releases methanoic acid into the sting region which causes itchiness. The nature of baking soda is basic.
