Sieving grains is a manual method for the separation of husk and other impurities from the grains on the basis of their weight. In this method the gravitational force pulls the light weight grains down whereas the heavy weight grains will not fall.

The force by which any objects or things fall towards the earth is called as gravitational force.  

Overall the separation of small pieces in sieving method is due to the gravitational force of earth.
