while taking reading from the clinical thermometer why should not we touch the bulb ?

We know that bulb of a clinical thermometer have \bf{mercury} inside it.

We also know that Mercury exapnds on heating, since, if earlier temperature is measured and recorded and then if we touch the bulb then the bulb will absorb heat from our hands also.

This results to give irregular temperature measurement.
