While using iodine in the laboratory, some drops of iodine fell on Paheli's socks and some fell on her teacher's saree. The drops of iodine on the saree turned blue black while their colour did not change on the socks. What can be the possible reason?

The saree must have been dipped in starch for steadiness because iodine changes it's color blue black after the reaction with starch.

Iodine is usually used for testing starch.
When brown iodine comes in contact with starch, it turns blue black.
Saris are usually starched to make them look good and stiff
∴ When some drops of iodine fell on the teacher's sari, it stained the sari blue black.
∵ (because) the sari was starched.
Whereas, Paheli's socks retained their colour as the didn't have any starch content.
