When we walk we use our base Foot to propel our body in forward direction.

When we move forward friction opposes the movement of our base foot which supports our motion in forward direction.

Hey, here is your answer....

As per Newton's third law of motion, (every action has an equal and opposite reaction), therefore, we can walk only if the ground we are walking on push our feet back with a force.
