When you test for starch in leaf it become pale with alcohol the main reason is:

● Alcohol reacts with the chlorophyll present in the leaf and decolourises it taking out the green colour.

● Then such decolourised leaf when comes in contact with Iodine turns to blue and black Or red colour.

● Occurrence of blue black colour indicates the presence of starch.
