Plaster of Paris (CaSO4.1/2H2O) also called calcium sulphate hemi hydrate becomes hard on mixing proper quantity of water. It gets converted into a hard mass called gypsum(CaSO4.2H2O) also called calcium sulphate di hydrate.

It is used is surgery to repair fractured bones.
