Who addressed Gandhiji as one man boundary force
Answers
Answer: Lord Mountbattten
Explanation:
Lord Mountbattten addressed Gandhiji as one-man boundary force.
The Partition of India brought large scale massacres in Bihar, Bengal and Punjab . He took upon himself the responsibility of restoring peace in areas where communal violence had began..
After leaving Lahore on 7 August he decided to visit Calcutta. He stayed in Sodepur Khadi Pratishthan during his visit. During his visit to Calcutta ,the city was in the grip of communal violence. Gandhiji was requested by H. S. Suhrawardy, a Muslim League leader and former premier of Bengal to calm the nerves of the people of Calcutta before visiting Noakhali, which too was under communal violence in the previous months.
Gandhi decided to put up in a Muslim dominated locality. Soon the situation turned better as riot stopped, and peace returned back to Calcutta. Hindus and Muslims started living peacefully.
Lord Mountbatten was impressed with the way Gandhiji controlled the communal riot in Bengal. In a letter to Gandhiji he admitted that inspite of having a large contingent of soldiers in Punjab, the British administration could not control the riot, whereas in Bengal the situation was put to rest by Gandhiji singlehandedly.
Hence he called Gandhiji one man army boundary force.
Hope this helps.
