Mavji Dave advised Gandhiji's family to send him to England to study law.

  • Mavji Dave was a learned Brahman, an old family friend and counselor. Even after the death of Gandhiji 's father, he maintained his link with the family.
  • During the holidays, he used to visit them. One visit he inquired about Gandhi ji's studies from his family and got to know he was in Samaldas college.
  • When he heard about Gandhiji's studies, he told that it would take Gandhiji approximately four years to complete his education, which would be fair at best for a post of about 50-60 rupees.
  • Thus, he advised on sending Gandhiji to England, to have a better education and experience which was suitable for Diwanship.
