Three states of matter exist – solid, liquid, and gas. Solids have a definite shape and volume. Liquids have a definite volume, but take the shape of the container. Gases have no definite shape or volume.

Explanation

solid - A solid is a state of matter with fixed shape and volume. The molecules present in solid are close-packed and they cannot be compressed easily.

Liquid - Liquid takes the shape of the container and not has fixed shape or volume. In liquid molecules are not packed tightly they have some space in between them and they can be compressed. water is the best example of liquid.

Gas - Gas they expand to fill their container and not has any fixed shape or volume. In gas the molecules are not packed they have limited space in between them and they can be compressed.
