Answer:

Explanation:

French Society was divided into 3 Groups/Estates till 1789 [Old Regime]. They were :

1) First Estate :

They were also known as Clergy.

They include the people who ran catholic churches as well as priests.

They had special privileges and powers from the church.

These had the power to impose 10% tax known as 'Tithe'.

2) Second Estate :

They were also known as Nobility.

This consisted of Aristocratic and Bureaucratic class.

This included the people who were Relatives of Kings and Queens. (Members of Royal family.

These members did not need to pay any taxes.

They also had special privileges, such as hunting, etc.

3) Third Estate :

This consisted of the common people. i.e. Peasants, Merchants, Artisans, Labours, etc.

This Estate was the most populous Estate in France. [It was 90% of the total population]

Almost 60% of these, work on the lands of Clergy and Nobility as Feudals.

These members had to pay taxes irrespective of anything. They also had to render services to the 'higher class' people.

They had to pay Tithes and Taille.

[Taille : Tax to be paid directly to the state.]

The Third Estate became represented by its more prosperous and educated members.

Thanks !
