The Cell Theory was proposed by M. J. Schleiden and Theodor Schwan.
Scheleiden prepared the cell theory in plants of 1838 and Schwan prepared the cell theory of animals in 1839.
The salient features are:
1) Cell is the unit of structures.
2) Cell is the unit of function.
3) Cell is the unit of heredity.
4) All living cells are only from the pre-existing cells.

The cell theory was given by M. Shleiden and T. Shwan . They independently worked on plants and animals respectively. Their research outcome were summarised as CELL THEORY..
The Cell theory explains the following :
Cell is the smallest structural and functional unit of life
2. All the cells are fundamentally almost similar that is they have almost similar structure and metabolic processes
3. A cell is surrounded by cell membrane it has cytoplasm and nucleus
4. Activities and characters performed by a body is an outcome of its intraction between constituting cells and their product.
5. All cells arise from previous existing cells. ( given by virchow)
