The introduction of National Food Security Act in India during the year 2009 was announced by Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, who acted as the Finance Minister during the time.
In 2013, it was implemented as 'Right to Food Act' and the families falling below the poverty line in India (BPL) are eligible for the subsidy.
They are entitled to receive below groceries of about 5kg per person per month.
Rice at the cost of Rs.3/Kg
Wheat at the cost of Rs.3/Kg
Millet at the cost of Rs.1/Kg
