The current chief justice of India is Justice Ranjan Gogoi. He is the 46th CJI and his tenure will end in 17 November. He completed his education from University of Delhi.

He is the first North-east Indian as well as first Assamese to be the Chief Justice of India. His name was recommended by the 45th CJI Dipak Mishra and was appointed as CJI by Ram Nath Kovind on 3 rd October.
