Hi friend,
Here is your answer:
The first phase of the existence of the Congress is known as the moderate phase (1885-1905). The leadership was confined to a handful of educated, English speaking upper class Indians who drew inspiration from western, liberal and radical thought. It did not challenge the British authority but adopted a constitutional path.
The national leaders like Dadabhai Nauroji, P.N. Mehta, D.E. Wacha, W.C. Banerji, S.N. Banerji, Gopal Krishna Gokhale who dominated Congress policies during this time were staunch believers in liberalism and moderate politics and came to be labelled as moderates.
Aims of the INC:
1. To flourish solidarity and friendship amongst the people of India.
2. To eradicate all the prevailing cast, creed, race or province related prejudices from the country.
3. To strengthen the feelings of National unity.
4. Consideration of the opinions of educated classes on the issues related to the problems of society.
5. To formulate guidelines for future plan of action in the public interest.

The leaders of INC (Indian National Congress) in the initial years are called moderates.
AIMS:
1 - to promote personal intimacy and friendship among those people
2 - to protect and enhance the feeling of unity among all Indians
3 - to collect all those opinions concerning the society
4 - to fix up those aims and means which were to be adopted by Indian politicians for the welfare of India
