Witches generally are so by virtue of either their bloodline or as part of an earth religion.

Some folks who practice WICCA believe themselves to be witches; I really can’t speak to that, other than to say it is similar to being adopted. Wiccans practice an abbreviated, yet authentic, religious earth worship and elemental magic.

Blood witches, by contrast, have the advantage of needing only to recover their magic; it is a more part of their intuitive understanding and can be plucked from the air, itself.

One thing I find notable about the differences in a bloodwitch and a Wiccan is that Wicca borrows from the old traditions, but stops short of accessing any real power.

For example, Wicca, created during the 1950′s, holds close the tenet, “The Rule of Three’s/The Threefold Law of Return…” whereas a bloodwitch will show no such compunction to self-criticise or judge magic for magic’s sake, any more than they would speaking a cross word in anger.

The old teachings show us that nature doesn't judge in the manipulation of elements, but for a wiccan, the Threefold Rule can be a FEARFUL thing, like a vengeful, karmic vigilante.

Faeries/fairies/fae aren't witches at all; they are an entirely separate race of magical beings, and ageless. They exist in what I can only describe as a secret dimension that can overlap our own in thin spots.

Faerie is a race and a bloodline that extends through a particular family line of Blood witches, although rare, from a time a Faerie might mate with a human who caught their eye.

I have known ONE witch who hails from that line, and she knows of one other, living. Both have grimoires of detailed family histories and lore.
