jana means people... it was there during the early vedic period... janapada means Jana means "people" or "subject" (cf. Latin cognate genus, English cognate kin). ... Latin cognate pedis); from its earliest attestation, the word has had a double meaningof "realm, territory" and "subject population".....janas are the head of the trials where as king is the head of entire kingdom...
