Raikas:

  • The Raikas are a specialized caste of pastoralists, particularly the dry, semi-arid areas of Rajasthan, from northwestern India.
  • While the goats, cattle, sheep and water buffalos are raised too, camel (Camelusdromedarius), is the most important factor for Raika's cultural identity.
  • Camels are mostly born in Rajasthan and huddled by part-nomadic Raikas.
  • The population of the camel is therefore spread geographically with small herds and are ususally associated with the Raikas.
