Answer: A tribe is a group of distinct people, dependent on their land for their livelihood, who are largely self-sufficient, and not integrated into the national society. Their living style, economy and culture is usually primitive, however, the forces of globalisation, westernisation and urbanisation have affected their society a great deal.

They are very strict in preserving their culture and traditions. Any outside influence, whether human or cultural, is not easily accepted.

Scheduled tribes, are those tribes which are officially accepted as disadvantaged and included (scheduled) in accordance with the article 342 of the Indian constitution. They are entitled to many incentives and reservation policies.

According to Article 342 of the Indian constitution, the Scheduled Tribes are the tribes or tribal communities or part of or groups within these tribes and tribal communities which have been declared as such by the President through a public notification.
