Scribes were people in ancient Egypt(usually men) who learned to read and write. Although experts believe that scribe were men , there is evidence of some female doctors. These women would have been trained as a scribeso that they could read the medical texts.

Their jobs were varied and include writing letter for fellow villagers who could not write . etc.
