Answers
Mahmud of Ghazni attacked parts of the Indian subcontinent between 1000 and 1025 A.D. The enormous wealth that existed in India, and the spread of Islam led his conquest of India. He invaded and plundered the Indian territory for seventeen times. His army defeated the army of Raja Jayapala in his first invasion of 1001 A.D, at the battle of Peshawar. It is only after his victory in the second battle that led him to shift his focus on Hindustan, particularly the highly fertile land of Punjab. He adopted the policy of demolishing Hindu temples and monuments. His invasion included the Hindu Empires of Nagarkot, Mathura, Thanesar, Kalinjar, Kannauj and Somnath. Gujrat was raided by him in 1027 A.D, where he plundered the Somnath temple and destroyed its Jyotirlinga.
