They realized that the profit gained from trade and industrial ventures would increase if the personnel in the economy would be healthy and citizens would be educated.

They opposed the aristocratic privileges and believed in individual effort,   labour and enterprise.

They believed that societies can only develop if freedom is secured, if the poor could work and if those with the means could operate without prudence.
