Mahatma Gandhi was known as ‘the father of the nation’ when in 1944, in Singapore, Subhas Chandra Bose claimed Mahatma Gandhi as Rashtriyapita on a radio program.

He said, “Father of our Nation in this holy war for India's liberation, we ask for your blessings and good wishes" while talking about Gandhiji.

Then later PM Jawarharlal Nehru also came forward on a radio for telling the news that saying ‘father of the nation is no more’.
