Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air. Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen and mold spores may be suspended as particles. Ozone, a gas, is a major part of air pollution in cities. When ozone forms air pollution, it's also called smog. Some air pollutants are poisonous.

Explanation:

Air pollution is the presence of substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the health of humans and other living beings, or cause damage to the climate or to materials. There are many different types of air pollutants, such as gases, particulates, and biological molecules.

Importance

When we breathe polluted air pollutants get into our lungs; they can enter the bloodstream and be carried to our internal organs such as the brain. This can cause severe health problems such as asthma, cardiovascular diseases and even cancer and reduces the quality and number of years of life.

Natural sources

Some of the natural sources of air pollution are organic compounds from plants, sea salt, suspended soils and dusts (e.g. from the Sahara). Other natural sources are released during catastrophes such as volcanic eruptions and forest fires.

Anthropogenic sources

Man-made sources: Anthropogenic (human-made) pollution is caused due to human activities. Burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, mining, sewage, industrial effluent, pesticides, fertilizers, etc. can cause anthropogenic pollution. - The primary air pollutants are sulfur oxides, oxides of nitrogen, carbon monoxide.
