Hinduism is based on seven stage muscle tone based human thinking mechanism. Stage 4, the stage of Stabilization is the default stage. It is for this reason that Vishnu is called Preserver.

Buddha evolved from this stage only. Therefore, some suppose Buddha to be the ninth incarnation of Vishnu.

Since stage 4 is the middle stage of the seven stage thinking teaching of Buddha supposed to be the middle path.

The other stages are called desire and thus have to be ignored.
