Ghazal was originally an Arabic form of poetry and is centuries old, older than Islam (5th/6th century). Gradually it spread to other languages and countries. Rumi, a 12th century mystic poet has written Persian Ghazals and probably the first GhazalGo (People who say Ghazals. A Ghazal is always ‘said’ even when it is written.) to become immensely popular. He traveled widely and spread the art of Ghazal to other parts of South Asia.

In India Ghazal was first treated properly by Amir Khusro (12th century). Khusro has also written very interesting Ghazals with each sher having one persian and one braj line.

Though authors before him have used the sheri (of couplets) style of poetry Agha Shahid Ali (born 1949) is credited with the first ‘correct’ use of the art form in English.

hope this helps and mark me as brainliest if it does please please...
