Religion very much controlled the thoughts of medieval man. The entire society was divided on basis of religion and casteism prevailed in every nook and corner. People who belonged to upper caste looked upon the lower caste people as useless and less important. Religion was the basis of this communal divide. It created barriers in every institution for the lower caste people and life became miserable for them.
