Imagine there is a big stone and you have to lift that stone, you go and try to lift, do you think you could lift it easily(remember that it is little heavy and big), when you try to lift up by giving some energy it looks like it doesn't move despite you giving some of your energy and finally you really lift it hard by giving more energy than previous time now you can see that stone is lifting.
similar manner all molecules has binding force with it, when you try to break it you need to spend some energy before completely break the molecule from bonding that energy what we call “Latent heat”(How there is no movement in the stone up to certain energy level same manner, here we have no temperature and pressure changes in the medium(means constant pressure and temperature) upto certain energy level.
