Narayan Meghaji Lokhande, declared Sunday as holiday in India.
Narayan Meghaji Lokhande
He was the head of the factory laborers. He introduced a day off from the week in front of the Britishers.
Under British rule, the factory laborers in India needed to work extremely hard for each of the seven days of each and every week.
The British authorities and laborers would go to chapel each Sunday and deal with their requests, while there was no such practice for the Indian plant laborers.
However, the British authorities dismissed his proposition.
Following a 7-year long battle, on the tenth June , the British Government pronounced Sunday as a vacation.
