The sex of a child is determined by its father.

EXPLANATION:

  • Men have two different types of sex chromosomes- X and Y unlike in females who have only one type- two X chromosomes.
  • During the production of gametes, the ovum produced by females carry only X- chromosome but the sperms produced by males may either carry a X or Y chromosome.
  • As X chromosome carrying 'sperm' fuses with the mother’s X chromosome a zygote carrying (XX) chromosome is produced generating a girl baby and when the Y chromosome carrying 'sperm' fuses with the mother’s X chromosome a zygote carrying (XY) chromosome is produced generating a boy baby.
  • Hence, the 'sex of the child' is determined by the father of the child.
