In middle of 19th century the revolutionary principles of liberty, equality and fraternity an impact on India as well. Indian nationalists imbibed these principles and developed a Democratic and nationalist outlook. A national movement for freedom was launched, culminating in India's independence from British rule in 1947.

Tipu sultan and raja ranmohan Roy were greatly influenced by the French ideas. They used these ideas in the improvement in the life of the people. raja ranmohan Roy could think and talk of nothing else when he heard of the July Revolution in France in1830.on his way to England at cape town he insisted on giving frigates (warships) flying the revolutionary tri- colour flag though he had been temporarily lamed by an accident.
