Explanation:

This is from the story “The portrait of a lady” by Khushwant singh. This is the story which tells the relationship between the author and his grandmother. His grandmother took care of him as his parents moved to the city.

He shared his beautiful relationship with his grandmother. She is very old and a religious person. She worked hard to earn a living. His grandfather looks very old which makes the narrator think that he has many grandchildren.

But the narrator was the only grandchild. His grandfather used to wore a turban on his head as part of their tradition and has a long beard. He looks very old and the narrator  also wondered how could he ever have a wife.
