Answer:

I would sympathize with Philip.

Explanation:

The reason behind such a decision is the nature of Uncle James. He is a very strict man who always imposes his rules and regulations on others. He has a set of firm rules for his household and the people staying with him and does not listen to others in the house. For example after Philip came home from war he wanted to have breakfast after 8 but Uncle James did not allow. Hence I Sympathize with Philips.

Answer:

Explanation:

The character of Uncle James should be more sympathized since he seemed to be weak-minded in nature. He wanted to impose his own decision on his nephew Philip, but was probably tricked by the young boy to accept his wishes.

He seemed to be totally confused whether he was still in a dream, regarding his both meetings with his nephew who showed opposite reactions during these meetings. He wanted Philip to join his jam business, which was fulfilled by the boy but according to his own free will.
