The cell was first discovered by Robert Hooke.
- Robert Hooke discovered cells in 1665 while examining a thin slice of cork through a self-designed microscope.
- He saw that the cork resembled the structure of a honey comb consisting of many little compartments. These small boxes are called cells.

Robert Hooke discovered cell
The cell was first discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665, which can be found to be described in his book Micrographia. In this book, he gave 60 'observations' in detail of various objects under a coarse, compound microscope. One observation was from very thin slices of bottle cork.
