* A Dutch scientists , Anton van Leeuvanhoek , was the first person to observe small organisms present in a drop of pond water in his microscope .what he had seen was a living cell of an organisms.
* An English scientist ,Robert Hooke ,observed a very thin piece of cork in his self - designed microscope .He saw a honeycomb - like structure which he named as cell ,which means a small room .What he had seen was a dead cell of the cork.

Robert Hooke,discovered cell in year 1665.While examining slice of cork (cork is a substance which comes from the bark of a tree).
