Robert Hooke discovered cells in 1665. He tried to see the details of cork under his own made microscope .He made very thin slices of cork and observed them under a microscope. He noticed partitioned boxes or compartments in the cork slice . That is he found that there were number of small spaces bounded by walls. He called each such bounded compartments as cells.
