● CELL - The structural and functional unit of all living beings is called cell.
● DISCOVERY - The first person who discovered and coined the term "cell" is Robert Hooke in 1665. He observed small , thin pieces of a cork (bark of old oak tree) under microscope. He saw very tiny hollow room-like structures which resembled with cells and coined the term "cells" for these structures. By doing modifications in the simple microscope, he also developed compound microscope.
