Answer:

HEY MATE HERE'S YOUR ANSWER

The nucleus of cell was discovered by Robert Brown in 1831. But with reference to the Atom, the atomic nucleus was discovered by Ernst Rutherford in 1911 by his famous Gold Foil Experiment.

Question :-

  • Who discovered nucleus ?

Answer :-

{\purple{\large{\bold{Ernest\: Rutherford}}}}

Additional:-

After the discovery of electrons ,protons and neutrons it became clear that an atom is made up of these three fundamental particles but how these particles were arranged in the atom remained an enigma until Rutherford's simple but igneous experiments with alpha particles. the alpha particles is a positively charged particle having two units of positive charge and 4 units of mass. alpha particles are emitted by radioactive elements like a radium, they can penetrate through matter to some extent. Rutherford's in his brilliant experiment made a beam of alpha particles to strike against a thin sheet of gold with starling observations he found that :-

  • Most of the alpha particles past straight through the gold foil without any deflection from their original parts.

  • A few alpha particles were deflected from their path, sum through small angles and few through large angles.

  • An occasional alpha particle on hitting the gold foil and turned back Rutherford's reasoned that gold foil like all matter is made up of atoms .if the atoms was solid throughout their volume then every alpha particle striking them should have got deflected or returned.

The observation that some of the alpha particles were deflected through small and large angles showed that there was a dense and hard centre of positive charge in an atom which repelled the positively charged alpha particles and deflected them from their original parts This centre of positive charge in an atom is known as Nucleus.

since the nucleus is a very dense practically the whole mass of an atom is centred at its nucleus as the number of alpha particles which are deflected is very small. He concluded that the size of the nucleus must be very small as compared to the size of the atom as a whole.

Rutherford summarised that :-

  • Nucleus of an atom is a very dense and hard.

  • Nucleus of an atom is very small as compared to the size of the atom as a whole.

  • Nucleus of an atom is positively charged
