Ernest Rutherford discovered the nucleus by using alpha - scattering particles.
In this experiment:-
The alpha particles is projected on a thin gold foil. since, the aplha particles are positive charged particles they got deflected by dense nucleus .
most of the alpha particles is passed without deflection that gave conclusion that the part of nucleus is mostly empty.
and the nucleus is concentrated only in a small part of atom.
