Because women are not given equal opportunities to prove themselves and showcase their talent even in politics people think that they are not meant for these jobs and hence there are so few women in parliament. But now there is reserved seats for women for there representation in parliament.

Answer:

Gender division that has predefined areas of work as per gender. Since early days women were treated inferior to men and were made to do only household chores. This deterred them from entering in other fields to work.

The gender division could also be seen in politics.

The proportion of representation of women in the legislature has been very low in India. In 2009 the elected women member in the Lok Sabha was 10% of the total strength. In state assemblies, their proportion was less than 5%.
