The Rajputs were the ones who dominated the North Indian region. They were of the belief that it belonged to the sun or moon or fire families. They were divided in two sects;

(i) Chandravanshi Tribe: This tribe believed that the region belonged to the moon families. 

(ii) Suryavanshi Tribe: This  tribe believed that the region belonged to the sun families. 

The Northern Region of India, Rajasthan is predominantly occupied by the Rajputs till date.

Kshatriya is a social order but Rajput is a caste that come under Kshatriya order. It is not necessary to be a Rajput to join the Kshatriya order.  They believed that were belong to the families of Sun and Moon.
