With the help of his wife Savitribai phule, he established first girls school in Pune because of the need to uplift women and especially for low caste girls. He performed many reforms for women such as private orphanage for widows, educate the low caste girls, resist the child marriages and so on. Sarvajnik Satyadharma Pustak and Ghulamgiri were their two notable works.
