The Indian School of Art was started by Henry Hover Locke as its first Principal.
It is one of the oldest Art Colleges of India and is also known as the Government College of Art and Craft in Kolkata.
It is located in Garanhata, Chitpur and was established in August 1854.
In 1859, Mr. Garick joined as the Head Teacher of the School.
After the demise of its first Principal, Mr. Locke, M. Schaumburg became its new principal on December 25, 1885.
