M.G. Ranade realised that the downfall of Indian society to British was due to certain weaknesses in the Hindu social system and unless these weaknesses removed the hope could not be realised.
He then founded Indian Social conference in 1887. An all-India organisation which ran as a social reform wing adjacent to the Indian National Congress. The conference met every year to discuss social evils and ways to remedy them.
