Democritus was the first one to mention the existence of atoms

But in Ncert it is mentioned that Mahirishi Ka.... ,whatever, considered that if we go on dividing matter we shall get smaller and smaller particles (can be atom) in around 500 BC
but Democritus was the first as he was mentioned that substance have smallest particles atom . Maharishi was not sure but Democritus was sure
