The first cell theory was coined by Theodor Schwann and MJ Schleiden in 1830. It states that: All living organisms are composed of cells and cell is the basic unit of life. Later, the third statement was coined by Rudolf Virchow. It states that all new cells arise from pre - existing cells.

Hope it helps :)

Two Germans M.J. Schleiden (Botanist in 1838) and Theodor Schwann (Zoologist in 1839) collectively formulated the cell theory.

And in 1855 a German physiologist, Rudolf Virchow proposed this.

He gave the phrase : "Omnis-cellula-e-cellula".

This phrase means- All cells arise from pre existing cells .

Cell theory features :

• Cell is the basic unit of structure of plants and animals both.

• It is the basic unit of function as well as the metabolic reactions take place inside the cell.
