In the last week of the October, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that it has appointed Saurabh Kumar as the new Ambassador to Myanmar.

He is a 1989 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service and was appointed as ambassador in many countries including Ireland (2003-2007) and Vietnam (2000-2003) and also in the UN Offices in Vienna and to Austria in October 2009.

Before his new appointment he was serving as ambassador of India in Iran. He began his diplomatic career in Hong Kong and Beijing in the mid-seventies under late President K. R. Narayanan, who was then the Ambassador to China.
