Explanation: The Ministry of External Affairs on 5th November 2018  appointed diplomat Mr Gaddam Dharmendra  as India's next Ambassador to Iran.

He  belonged to the 1990-batch Indian Foreign Service officer and currently positioned as an additional secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

Mr Saurabh Kumar ,the outgoing Ambassador had been appointed as India's Ambassador to Myanmar in October 2018.

His appointment was considered as a significant move, as it came at a time when Iran faced some of the the toughest sanctions by USA on oil imports.
