Lev Vygotsky is recognized as a strong foundation of the philosophy of social constructivism. He was of the opinion that students learnt best and fastest through socialization or working in groups rather than on their own.

His theory has three main parts: social interaction which emphasized that children learn through social interaction. Second, the more knowledgeable other theory which requires the presence of a teacher or coach as a source of teaching and information and third, the zone of proximal development which emphasized the need for group learning rather than individual learning or independent learning.
